Australia Awards is a prestigious scholarship program for Papua New Guineans offered by the Australian Government.

Application is now OPEN for two Short Courses;

  1. Certificate IV in Agribusiness
  2. Certificate IV in Entrepreneurship & New Venture Creation

Australia Awards is seeking applications from men and women who are running their own businesses in Papua New Guinea (PNG) and would like to develop their knowledge and skills about entrepreneurship so that they can grow or diversify their businesses.

The Certificate IV in Entrepreneurship and New Venture Creation aims to encourage, support and advance potential Papua New Guinean business owners in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) sector to better establish and manage MSMEs in their respective areas through improved business practices and attracting finance and investment.

The Certificate IV in Agribusiness has separate information found on their website. However, the information below is for the Cert. IV in Entrepreneurship & New Venture Creation.

REQUIREMENTS:

To be selected for this Short Course Award applicants must:

  1. Have a minimum Grade 12 qualification;
  2. Be an entrepreneur/owner of a business or be a senior employee/leader in one of the NGOs that promotes women economic empowerment or entrepreneurship;
  3. Have your business registered with Investment Promotion Authority (IPA);
  4. Have your business in operation for more than two years;
  5. Be committed to prepare and develop a project as part of the course;
  6. Engage actively and foster networks with multiple stakeholders and disseminate learning for the course with colleagues and peers.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Upon completion of the course participants will:

  1. Understand and provide high quality, responsive customer service
  2. Understand key principles of innovation and opportunity creation
  3. Understand key principles for attracting finance and investment
  4. Understand financial terminology and budgeting principles
  5. Develop skills to lead and manage individuals and teams
  6. Understand principles of small business management, including staff management
  7. Understand key principles for stakeholder engagement

A small number of places will be reserved for representatives from the Government of PNG. The Department of Personnel Management will facilitate these nominations.

COURSE DELIVERY DATES:

There are two (2) course delivery dates and are as follows;

A). Pre-course workshop (one week, in PNG): December 2019

  • Block 1 (four weeks, in Australia) – January to February 2020
  • Block 2 (four weeks, in Australia) – March to April 2020

B). Post-course workshop (one week, in PNG): June 2020

This is a fully funded scholarship. All course fees, travel, accommodation and per diems will be provided by Australia Awards.

  1. I have started few community micro finance activities and entrepreneurship. Would require more skills to assist local entrepreneurship.
